Imaging sensitivity of a linear interferometer array on lunar orbit

چکیده

Ground-based observation at frequencies below 30 MHz is hindered by the ionosphere of Earth and radio frequency interference. To map sky these low frequencies, we have proposed Discovering Sky Longest wavelength mission (DSL, also known as "Hongmeng" mission, which means "Primordial Universe" in Chinese) concept, employs a linear array micro-satellites orbiting Moon. Such an can be deployed to lunar orbit single rocket launch, it make interferometric observations achieving good angular resolutions despite small size antennas. However, differs from conventional ground-based interferometer or even previous orbital interferometers many aspects, new data-processing methods need developed. In this work, series simulations assess imaging quality sensitivity such array. We start with input model simple model, generate mock visibilities, then reconstruct map. consider various observational effects practical issues, system noise, antenna response, Moon blockage. Based on recovered image, quantify capability for different satellite numbers configurations. For first time, estimates point source array, predict expected number detectable sources mission. Depending distribution still very uncertain detect $10^2 \sim 10^4$ during its operation.

The Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer: a high sensitivity imaging array

The Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer (MROI) is a US federally funded project to construct the world’s most ambitious optical/IR (0.6-2.4micron) imaging interferometer at a 10,500ft-altitude site in New Mexico. In its initial phase it will consist of 6 telescopes, each 1.4m in diameter, separated by distances ranging from 7.5m to 340m. A second phase will upgrade the interferometer to ...

Sensitivity of an imaging space infrared interferometer.

We study the sensitivities of space infrared interferometers. We formulate the signal-to-noise ratios of infrared images obtained by aperture synthesis in the presence of source shot noise, background shot noise, and detector read noise. We consider the case in which n beams are combined pairwise at n(n-1)/2 detectors and the case in which all the n beams are combined at a single detector. We a...

On-orbit Sensitivity of ACS

Ground measurements of all the components of the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) allow one to predict the sensitivity of each instrument. Soon after the installation of ACS we tested the on-orbit sensitivity. We observed spectrophotometric standard stars with the three channels of ACS to calculate the observed-topredicted count rates ratios. We performed a first order correction of the pre-fl...

The gravitomagnetic influence on gyroscopes and on the lunar orbit ”

The Letter [1] states that the gravitomagnetic interaction plays a part in shaping the lunar orbit at a level of one part in a thousand readily obervable by LLR. The authors pick up a “gravitomagnetic” term from the PPN equation of motion of massive bodies [2] and prove that, if the Sun is neglected, it correctly reproduces the LenseThirring precession of the spin of the GP-B gyroscope orbiting...
